bruton farm ruins by logging road
original post follows:
this hike is a way of reaching bruton ruins which doesn't involve several portages to scorch lake. this is an intermediate difficulty in-and-out hike of 15.5km, and takes 4-5 hours to complete. access to the park is through the logging road near the algonquin eco lodge entrance. the parking area here is on private property, park parking is available at the high falls trail lot, cross the bridge and walk along the ATV trail until you see a little shed, the park gate is right behind it. you'll see the turn off for the lodge a few minutes on the road to the right, continue straight to bruton. you'll soon come across to the only river crossing. it was late in the paddling season so the water was only a few inches deep. blicky robbie is getting ready to cross:

continue along the logging road. there's a swampy section where two culverts have failed:

you'll first pass a single outhouse on your left. later you'll climb over a fallen tree, and soon thereafter pass two outhouses on your left, just past them is rock wall. you've arrived at bruton farm. the bruton farm trail splits off to the right, there was a shelter with a blue tarp you could see from the logging road marking the way. we had limited time to explore, and although we quickly did bushwhack to the coordinates from clay's post, we did not find the tower ruins. i will continue to look for the tower, and a better route to the farm by foot. just before the swampy section marked on the map, there's a trail that breaks off to the right which also appears to lead to the farm. access should also be possible from the high falls trail by crossing the river and using the lookout trail path.
